From Chapel via Montes to Cós (alc02S)

Walk location: A 6 km linear walk from Cóz (also spelt Cós) via Montes.

Author: John.

The walk: Starting at the chapel of Santa Rita we walk along fairly level tracks in open countryside to the village of Montes before making a steep descent into the valley. The descent has loose stones so wear good shoes and bring your walking poles or a stick.  As well as the very steep descent there are two shorter quite steep ascents – see the elevation profile above.

There should be some good views from the chapel.

Timing: The walk is about 6 km and with the drive to the start point will take about about 2.5 hrs.

Car meeting point: Meet at the Car park by the Convento in Cóz at 10:30 we will car share for the 2 km drive to the start point.

Coffee stop:  Possibly in the village at the end of the walk. If the church at the Convento is open it is worth a visit.

Notes:  Directions to the lay-by near to Valado dos Frades.
Leave the A8 at junction 22 – signed Nazaré & Alcobaça. Turn right at the first roundabout and immediately on your right is the lay-by opposite to a petrol station.

Coming from Alcobaça, go straight across the above roundabout.

Coming through Valado dos Frades the lay-by is on your left just before the auto-estrada roundabout
