Walk location:   A circular walk from Alfeizerão through up the ridge and descending to the valley by the Rio Alfeizerão.

The Walk: The walk follows a fairly steep track up the ridge to join the road through Casal Pardo with good views of São Martinho on the way. Here we can take coffee if not too early in the walk. We follow quiet roads and tracks to descend to Casal Velho with good views inland en route. Then we follow the Rio Alfeizerão downstream – there may be some muddy stretches – and leave the valley, making another fairly steep ascent towards Cadarroeira then descending along an overgrown track back to a quiet road which we follow to the start point. There are sharp bends and a steep drop on the road so watch out for traffic.

Timing: The walk is 11 km, about 3 hours.

Car Meeting Point:  The car park of the Pão do Ló café, close to the Alfeizerão A8 autoestrada exit, at 09:30 am. See the Notes section below for directions.

Notes:  Directions to Pão do Ló café:

From Caldas da Rainha take the N8 or A8 to northwards.

From the N8 turn left under the motorway flyover signed Alfeizerão. At the motorway roundabout, go straight across.

From the A8 turn right at the motorway roundabout.

After about 100metres take second turning left; after the turn you will see a petrol station ahead on the right hand side. The café is next door.

From São Martinho drive through Alfeizerão past the classic car showroom and turn right at the café on the left. After the turn you will see a petrol station ahead on the right hand side. The café is next door.

Walk location: A circular walk from Alfeizerão along the river and return through Cadarroeira on the eastern ridge.

The Walk:  The walk follows the river valley for 3 kilometres (muddy and standing water) with one steep climb to warm up. Then a long uphill along a quiet road to the village of Cadarroeira. From there we descend along a farmers’ track back to a quiet road with a number of blind corners. The final descent should offer fine views of the São Martinho bay and surrounding countryside.
The tracks will be muddy and slippery so bring walking poles if needed and wear waterproof footwear.

Timing:  The walk is 8 km, about 3 hours.
