The Walk

A 7 km circular walk around Cóz and Montes

“Coz is one of the oldest settlements in the former Coutos de Alcobaça. It was founded by the Phoenicians in the middle of the century. VII BC, who named it Coz in memory of the island they were then lords of – “Kos”, belonging to the Sporades archipelago, near the coasts of Asia Minor. Due to its strategic location next to the existing Lagoa da Pederneira and the richness of its lands, Coz was an object of covetousness.

There are several places of interest that hikers can visit, including the Monastery of Santa Maria de Coz. The monastery was considered by many historians to be one of the richest female Cistercian monasteries. In this place, the first religious community dates back to the 16th century. XIII.

Timing

The walk is about 7 km and is expected to take about 2.5 hrs
