The Walk

A walk along the São Martinho do Porto beach to the Dune at Salir do Porto

This is a loop walk starting at the beachfront park in São Martinho do Porto. We walk along the beach to Salir do Porto where we ascend to the back of the Dune via a gravel road. Here we climb a sandy path to a mirador with a view of the entire bay. From the mirador we descend the dune and head back to São Martinho do Porto via the boardwalks and malanquin.

After the walk we can enjoy coffee, ice cream, or lunch at one of the beachfront cafes in São Martinho do Porto

The best place for parking is along the São Martinho do Porto Caís. The driving / parking directions below will take you to the Caís without weaving through the village’s narrow streets.

The Walk

Walk with fine views along the coast and inland

The walk is through high, open countryside along the cliff top – for most of the route the cliff slopes fairly gently to the sea. There will be fine views along the coast and inland – visibility permitting. The ground is firm, but uneven in places.

The walk is about 7 km and is expected to take about 2 hrs

The Walk

From São Martinho do Porto, on sandy tracks towards Macarca and return

The walk is mainly along sandy tracks, with loose sand in places, but expect some muddy spots after rain. The walking is on flat ground, goes through pine and eucalyptus woodland and open fields to Marcarca. We then we walk a short distance along the road before heading towards Vale do Paraiso along more tracks. There is then a further stretch of walking on a quiet road before rejoining tracks to head back to the start point.

The walk is about 7.5 km and is expected to take about 2 hours.

Coming from São Martinho, drive straight over the roundabout by Intermarche supermarket heading towards Famalicão on the N242. Nice walk thrue woodland and coastal tracks

The circular walk is a mixture of woodland & coastal tracks with about 2 km of quiet roads

The walk starts along the flat area near to the N 242 road to Nazare. After crossing the main road the route goes up through the woodland towards Serra dos Mangoes A section along the road before turning off left towards Salgado beach & the viewpoint. The next part follows coastal tracks , ending near Facho. Towards the end of the walk , descend to Sao Martinho centre & the seafront, where you can choose to stop for coffee / snack..

As ruas, as vistas e a baía de São Martinho do Porto (smp11S)

The streets, the views and the bay of Sao Martinho do Porto

The circular walk is a mixture of quiet roads, tracks and boardwalk. We leave the start point and follow roads through the old town to the Gralha beach north of SMdP. From there we follow a track before before following more quietish roads to the SMdP miradouro (viewpoint). Then, we follow a road down towards the bay but branch off along an open, rocky path to the bay headland. To get to the bay itself, we descend some steepish, uneven steps which require a good degree of care, especially after wet weather. Finally, we head around the bay along more tracks and the board walk before returning to the coffee stops in the bay. Although the full walk is 9km, its very easy to finish walking after approximately 6km for those who wish to do so. Also, if there is/has been wet weather, it will be necessary to remain on the road rather than take the “rocky path to the bay headland”. Although dogs are welcome to accompany us, it is recommended that, due to the amount of roadwork on the walk, that they are kept on a lead.

Serra Pescaria and Venda Nova (pes16S)

A ridge walk overlooking the sea north of São Martinho do Porto

The first half of the walk is on the land side of the coastal ridge and follows tracks and quiet roads. For the second half we join the sea side of the coastal ridge with fine views inland and along the coast. This section has gentle, uphill ascents and follows tracks. In wet weather there will be muddy spots and wet undergrowth.

Circular coast walk above Praia da Gralha

A circular walk starting at the picnic area across from the entrance to the Colina do Sol campground (Parque de Campismo Colina do Sol) and following the trail along the coast above Praia da Gralha and Praia Salgado.

The first part of the walk is on paved bike paths and gravel roads. Once we reach the coast, we follow a hardpacked trail along the bluff between Praia da Gralha and the mirador on the south end of Praia Salgado. The return path is through the quiet roads of Serra dos Mangues. Some areas of this route can be slippery after a rain so wear shoes with good traction.

The Walk

The walk starts from Venda Nova (rua Bon Jesus) to Serra do Mangues and from there we descent through the forrest to the N242.

From there we climb up again through another route back to Serra do Mangues and via Estrada dos Chães we return back to our start position.

We walk on normal roads and sandy paths.

The walk is 5.0 km and will take about 2 hours
