Long Walk Arelho to Covão dos Musaranhos

Walk location: A long walk (3 hrs) along part of the south side of the head of the Óbidos lagoon.
Car Meeting Point: At 09:15 am in the car park at the Covão dos Musaranhos café/restaurant by the lagoon on the road to Bom Sucesso. If you are unsure of the location send me an email and we can arrange a meeting point. This is a linear walk so we drive back to Arelho to the start point.

Walk Start Point: A parking area on the east side of the main road through Arelho. Turn right at the cross roads in the centre when heading towards the lagoon.

The walk: The first part of the walk is through woodland which descends to the lagoon. The walk along the first part of the lagoon edge is mostly level but will be very muddy in places. We may have to take a diversion if the ground water is too deep.
We go uphill to the look out point, and then descend some steps down to the lagoon. The next part is through mud flats on a raised walkway followed by a firm track, and then we take a diversion uphill through mixed woodland to descend again to the lagoon. The final half km stretch is along the road.
Bring your binoculars if you want to observe any birds.
Coffee stop; There are no coffee stops during the walk, but we can take a coffee at the end.
Timing: The walk is about 10km and is expected to take about 3 hrs, plus extra for coffee.
