Óbidos Lagoon north side (lag04S)

Walk location: The short walk (1.25 hr) is along part of the head of the Óbidos lagoon (between Nadadouro and Caldas da Rainha).

Originator:  John

The walk: The first part of the walk is across an expanse of grass and it descends through woodland to the lagoon where the ground may be wet, so waterproof shoes are recommended. We follow the lagoon to the road and then ascend a track in the woods which is a bit rough underfoot with cobbles and eroded sandy channels.
At the end we follow a stretch of fairly quiet road.

Timing: The walk is about 4.5 km and is expected to take about 1.25 hrs, plus extra for coffee.

Car Meeting Point: The car park of Campell’s Bar at 10:30 a.m (directly beneath the conical water tower).

Deg, Min, Secs:    Latitude  39°24’45.56″N  Longitude   9°10’42.48″W
Decimal Deg:       Latitude  39.412656°       Longitude  -9.178467°

Walk Start Point: The same as the car meeting point.

Coffee stop: There are no coffee stops during the walk, but there is a coffee place in the centre of Nadadouro after the walk.

Notes: Directions from Caldas da Rainha or the A8 to the meeting point are:
Leave the A8 at junction 18, signed N360 Foz do Arelho (this is the minor road to Foz lined by plane trees).
Take the Foz do Arelho road for about 1.5 km
Turn left into the “Rua Alto dos Moinhos” – there is a small sign to “Quinta do Negrelho Village”. You will see a petrol station 100 metres ahead, on the left
Follow the road for 1.5km and turn left off the main road at a Y fork – there is a large, concrete, conical shaped water tower in front, on the left.
Park off the road under the water tower.

Contacts: See the walks’ email for contact telephone numbers or send an email from the web site.
