Regrengo Grande – Rota da Agua (LNH 001)

A walk from Regrengo Grande to Pó via the Cornaga Valley

Wednesday 01/04 10:00

The Walk:  This circular route follows the course of the Galvão River, through the Cornaga Valley highlighting the traditional use of water: The first half of the walk follows the river on a roadway dating back to the time of the Roman invasion of the Iberian Peninsula. It passes stone walls and bridges, water mills, laundries and orchards. The second half of the walk ascends a forested path to the ridge and returns to Regrengo Grande via roads passing through vineyards and the ruins of farmsteads.

Regrengo Grande, roughly translated, means ‘Large Farm Leased from the King’, and that was it’s origin. However, the valley’s development began long before Regrango Gande was founded in 1433. The village of Casais das Cesareda which overlooks the valley is named for Julius Ceasar who’s troops made camp there during the Roman occupation of the Iberian Peninsula.
