Serra do Bouro mata from Zambujeiro (seb04S)

Walk location: The walk is through the open heath land near Serra do Bouro.

 

The Walk: The first half of the walk ascends through heath land along beaten earth tracks – the first 400 metres of the ascent are fairly steep – then the slope becomes fairly gentle with views inland along the Caldas valley. The second half descends to a small village (Cabeça da Vela) with some quiet road walking.

Timing: The walk is about 5.5km and is expected to take about 2 hrs.

Car Meeting Point: The church car park in “Serra do Bouro” at 10:00 am. For directions see the Notes below.

Walk Start Point: We drive a short distance into Zambujeiro to park on the roadside near to the walk start point.
It may be necessary to car share depending on numbers.

Coffee Stop: There is no coffee stop on the walk, but we can arrange to meet up at a coffee shop after the walk is finished.

Notes: Directions to meeting point:

From Caldas da Rainha take the fast road to Foz do Arelho (drive through the industrial estate and through several kilometers of woodland). At the rocky roundabout turn right, signposted Serra de Bouro. You pass quarry entrances on your left and about 1km further on you come to a cross roads. Go straight across – sign posted São Martinho do Porto, Igreja & Cemitério – and after 200 metres turn into a parking area on the left just before the church. There is a bandstand in the parking area. This is the meeting point.

From São Martinho do Porto go to Salir do Porto and leave the main road by turning left after the roundabout to go through Casais do Salir. Keep straight on and descend into the valley driving through woodland. As you exit the woodland you will see a church on your right. Turn right into a parking area just after the church. There is a bandstand in the parking area. This is the meeting point. If you come to a cross roads turn round.
