Salir do Porto Headland (spo04AS)

Walk location:  A linear walk along the coastal strip near the bay entrance at Salir do Porto.

Originator:  John

The Walk:  We walk northwards with some magnificent views along the coast and inland. We can visit the ruined chapel of Sant’ana, which gives a fine view of the bay and São Martinho do Porto, then retrace our steps to arrive at the top of the large sand dune above Salir do Porto – there is a short, sandy uphill scramble to get to the top of the dune. If you don’t fancy the dune descent there is an alternative descent which comes out behind the new swimming pool by the beach.

Expect some mud and puddles and some sand.

Timing:  The walk is about 6 km and is expected to take about 1.5 hrs

Car Meeting Point:  The beach car-park at Salir do Porto for 09:50 am. See the Notes section below for directions.

Coffee Stop:  We can take coffee in Salir do Porto towards the end of the walk.

Notes:  The beach car park is on the right side just past the swimming pool. You can reach the beach car park from the roundabout on the São Martinho to Foz do Arelho road. Coming from São Martinho take the first right at the roundabout in Salir do Porto.
The “open area” above Salir do Porto can be reached from the Estrada Atlântica which runs from Salir do Porto to Foz do Arelho. From Salir go to the top of the hill and when you reach a row of new, terraced houses on the left side turn right off the main road into a narrow road and after 200 metres you come to an open area with a few houses.
