Long – Headland at Salir do Porto (spo02L)

Web page in construction

Walk location:  A walk with fine views along the coast and the bay of São Martinho do Porto.

Originator:  John

The Walk:  The walk follows tracks on the headland close to the sea. There are fine views along the coast. Initially we pass through woodland to the cliff where there are traces of dinosaur tracks. We then walk along the headland to the ruined chapel of Sant’ana, which gives a fine view of the bay and São Martinho do Porto, then we make s steep descent (cushioned by sand) down the cliff and pass by the ruined customs house near to the bay entrance.  We walk along the beach to Salir do Porto and ascend to the start point.
The tracks are mostly firm, but there is loose sand in places.

Timing:  The walk is about 9 km and is expected to take about 2.5 hrs.
