The Walk
A circular walk around Aljubarrota & Cadoiço
From the village of Aljubarrota and then the outskirts of the village of Cadoico.
This walks begins with the significance of Aljubarotta to the birth of Portugal as a nation. Aljubarotta is famous for the battle of 14 August 1385 when Portugal first established independence from the Castilian Kingdom. Hence the significance of the timing of this walk. It’s a combination of country and village roads and bush tracks.

The walk is about 8.6 km / approx. 2 hours

The meeting/start point is just off the first roundabout on the N8 coming from Alcobaca. You’ll see a garden centre on the right just past the roundabout heading north through Aljubarotta. Notes
- The walk is rated easy, but there are parts where the terrain is rough – so walking poles are recommended
- The weather is expected to be fine – so please bring a hat, sun cream & water
